FSSAI registration for home bakers and tiffin services (2026 guide)
Yes, home bakers, tiffin services and other home-based food sellers need FSSAI registration. Since 1 April 2026, FSSAI basic registration covers food businesses with a yearly turnover of up to ₹1.5 crore, up from ₹12 lakh. You apply online on the FoSCoS portal, and the fee is ₹100 a year.
Who needs FSSAI registration?
Anyone who makes, sells or serves food as a business needs an FSSAI registration or licence. That includes people who cook or bake at home and sell through WhatsApp or Instagram.

How to apply on FoSCoS, step by step
- Go to foscos.fssai.gov.in and sign up with your mobile number and email.
- Choose to apply for a new registration, then pick your state and your kind of food business.
- Fill in Form A with your name, address and the food items you make.
- Upload the documents the portal asks for, such as a photo, ID proof and proof of address.
- Pay the fee online.
- Track your application and download the certificate once it is approved.
What does FSSAI registration cost?
The government fee for basic registration is ₹100 a year, and you can choose a validity of 1 to 5 years. Agents may charge extra to file it for you, but you can also apply yourself.
After you get it: show your FSSAI number
